Arrived in Whitehorse
yesterday at 2:30, uneventful flight except my seat on the plane
didn't recline. Lunch was a steaming hot chicken wrap, encased
in foil and flung to us by the stewardess from the aisle. That
was all. Trevor met me at the airport, he had ordered a hamburger
and Caesar in the restaurant and shared because I was still hungry.
Quite cold and
rainy. Trevor did errands for the rest of the afternoon and
I sat in his van and read my bridge book.
We were able to
get a couple of booklets on the Yukon River Heritage like the one
Joy lent me, at the Tourist Information.

We arrived at
Janet's at 6:00. She was cooking up a storm, baked salmon,
salads etc. and Cathrine was making a fruit flan dessert. There
were seven of us for dinner, lots of wine and afterwards Trevor and
Cathrine and I went bar hopping until about 12:30.

Slept until 9
am! Much better weather, warmer, mostly sunny, a few small
showers. Trevor and I went out to his storage shed and collected
a lot of stuff on our canoe trip list, then we went out for lunch
and spent the rest of the afternoon shopping for food and supplies. Trevor
took me to see a friend of his who is a graphic artist. He
works for a youth center called the Blue Feather, which was started
about three years ago by a young woman, initially without any funding. They
have a lot of computers (Trevor volunteers his services for this),
a library, kitchen, a stage for band, a sign shop, and a big common
room. They are attempting to bring some of the lost youth back
into the mainstream by getting them interested in learning. They
have several working in their sign shop and several starting school
via the computers in the fall. The outside of the building
is covered with really beautiful murals (painted by Trevor's friend)
and the inside has a lot of imagination. Different from a government
shop.
Had a great leftover
dinner. Trevor has had some difficulty as he has misplaced
some parts he needs to fix a couple of computers for clients. He
finally gave up in frustration and will get back to it in the morning. We
finished packing for our canoe trip.
